Lighting Design

Feature lighting, scene control, outdoor schemes and architectural detail, drawings, spec and install under one roof.

What we do

A good lighting scheme is layered: ambient, task, feature, and accent, each on its own dimmable circuit, each commissioned to the scene your room is actually used for. We draw it, spec it, install it, and sit with you at handover while we set up the scenes together.

  • Lighting plans drawn to scale with lux calculations where needed.
  • Recessed LED downlights, architectural strip, pendants and feature fittings.
  • Dimmable scene control, Lutron, Rako, Hue and Shelly systems.
  • Outdoor lighting schemes: uplighters, path lights, deck and step lights.
  • Warm dim-to-warm circuits for living spaces; cool task light for kitchens and utility.
  • Scene programming and handover, we teach you the system before we leave.

Layers beat brightness every time

The single biggest mistake in residential lighting is flooding a room with uniform, bright, cool downlights. It's ruinous for evening mood, kills the architecture, and makes every room feel like a retail showroom. A proper scheme works in layers: ambient (wash of the walls), task (over the worktop or desk), feature (picking out art or joinery), and accent (catching a plant or a piece of furniture).

Every layer should be on its own circuit and its own dimmer, not because you'll use all four at once, but because the scenes you care about at 7am, 7pm and midnight are completely different. We commission scenes at handover and save them with names you actually use: Morning, Film, Dinner, Late.

On dimming, we stick to trailing-edge dimmers that work properly with modern LED drivers, or DALI where the budget and system demands it. No flicker, no humming, no minimum brightness that's still too bright. And where a space wants warm-dim (the colour shifts to a golden glow as you dim down), we specify drivers and fittings that actually do that, not ones that just fade to dead white.

What you get

Layered

Ambient, task, feature, accent, each on its own circuit, so every room has five feels, not one.

Dimmable

Everything is dimmable. Full-brightness lighting has its place. Evenings are not it.

Programmed

Scenes saved with names, 'Film', 'Dinner', 'Morning', not left for you to recreate on a dial.
